A standing presence rather than a fixture. Freddy Tuppen’s floor lamp belongs to the body of work he describes as luminous lights -atmospheric objects that seem to glow from within rather than cast outward. Through coloured veils and layered diffusion, the lamp inhabits a threshold between visibility and obscurity, the source softened until light itself becomes the material.
The piece draws on Tuppen’s wider practice as artist and designer, where architecture, furniture and object share the same logic: humble materials, uncomplicated forms, and a discipline of constraint that leaves room for spontaneity. The result is a quiet monumentality – a domestic monolith – that asks to be lived alongside rather than simply switched on.
