The Story of a Shelter Jörg Boner & Christoph Hefti 06 Nov – 06 Dec 2026

The Story of a Shelter
Jörg Boner & Christoph Hefti

A low bed in pale wood stands in the middle of the gallery. Heavy wool runs across it and down onto the floor, where it opens into a landscape of browns, creams and greys, one shape bleeding into the next. A small lamp rests on a stone, and above the room hangs a white house.

The Story of a Shelter brings together two Swiss practices that seldom meet in one space. Jörg Boner thinks like a maker: he trained as a cabinetmaker, and his studio in Zurich has worked on furniture and objects since 2001. Christoph Hefti moves freely between textiles, fashion, ceramics, video and the stage. In this exhibition their work comes together as a single environment.

Its starting point is one of the oldest ideas we have. Shelter here doesn’t mean architecture. It’s something closer to the body: a surface to rest on, warmth underfoot, a light to sit beside.

Christoph Hefti currently has a major solo exhibition at Museum für Gestaltung Zürich. The Missing Cat and Other Textile Stories runs until 3 January 2027.

Jörg Boner (b. 1968) received the Swiss Grand Prix Design in 2011.
